Shaping Minds.
Changing the World.

For over six decades, BRAS Academy has been a beacon of academic excellence, fostering the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and leaders who dare to reimagine the future.

Advancing Knowledge for the Common Good

BRAS Academy of Education & Sciences is dedicated to the discovery, preservation, and dissemination of knowledge. We educate students to think critically, act ethically, and lead with purpose. Through rigorous scholarship and interdisciplinary collaboration, we address the most pressing challenges facing humanity — from climate change and public health to social justice and technological transformation.

We are committed to creating an inclusive community where every individual can thrive, contribute, and find their voice. Our educational philosophy balances deep specialization with broad intellectual inquiry, ensuring our graduates are not only experts in their fields but also thoughtful global citizens.

A Global Leader in Transformative Education

We envision a world where education transcends boundaries — geographic, disciplinary, and socioeconomic. By 2035, BRAS Academy aims to be among the world's top research universities, recognized for breakthroughs that improve millions of lives, for graduates who lead with integrity, and for a campus culture that celebrates diversity of thought and experience.

Our strategic plan, "BRAS 2035: Horizons of Discovery," outlines ambitious goals including doubling our research output, expanding our global partnerships to 200+ institutions, achieving carbon neutrality, and ensuring that no admitted student is unable to attend due to financial constraints.

A Legacy of Innovation & Impact

From a modest regional college to a globally recognized research university, BRAS Academy's journey is one of ambition, resilience, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

1962

Foundation

BRAS Academy was founded by Dr. Edmund Hargrove and Dr. Leila Farouk with a vision to create an institution that bridges Eastern and Western intellectual traditions. Starting with just 120 students and 15 faculty members, the college offered programs in Liberal Arts, Natural Sciences, and Education.

1971

University Status & Medical School

After a decade of rapid growth, BRAS received full university accreditation. The School of Medicine & Health Sciences was established, along with the BRAS Medical Center, which would go on to become a leading teaching hospital serving the region.

1983

Engineering & Technology Expansion

The School of Engineering & Technology opened, attracting top faculty from around the world. Professor Yuki Nakamura joined the department, founding the pioneering Robotics & Automation Lab. The first BRAS-patented technology was licensed, generating revenue that funded student scholarships.

1995

Global Research Recognition

BRAS researchers published groundbreaking work in Nature and Science, and Dr. Adaeze Okonkwo became the first BRAS faculty member to receive a Nobel Prize nomination for her work in sustainable chemistry. The university established its first international research partnerships with institutions in Japan, Germany, and Brazil.

2005

Campus Renaissance

A $500 million campus renewal project transformed BRAS Academy, adding the iconic Hargrove Library (holding 4.2 million volumes), the Innovation Pavilion, and the Sustainability Sciences Complex. Student enrollment surpassed 10,000 for the first time.

2015

Digital Transformation & Online Learning

BRAS launched its Open Learning Initiative, making over 500 courses freely available online and reaching 2 million learners worldwide. The Center for Educational Innovation was established to integrate AI and adaptive learning technologies into the curriculum.

2024

BRAS 2035 Strategic Plan

Under the leadership of President Dr. Amelia Song-Rivera, BRAS unveiled its ambitious strategic plan: "Horizons of Discovery." The plan includes the establishment of two new interdisciplinary institutes — the Institute for Artificial Intelligence & Society and the Global Climate Resilience Center — alongside record fundraising of $1.2 billion.
